Lesson 13: How to Spot Credible Research
The Data Proficiency Program training lessons are now available to state employees. Upon completion of each section quiz badges will be emailed from mph@subscriptions.in.gov. We welcome all state employees to sign up via their state email account to receive future updates and news about our Data Proficiency Program. Subscribe to our mailing list to stay in touch with us.
We hope your ability to read, interpret and talk about data has improved throughout the Data Proficiency Program series. In a world where information is easily accessible but not always accurate, possessing data literacy skills to assess research credibility is vital. These skills include being able to navigate complex issues, make informed choices and contribute meaningfully to both personal and professional spheres.
In the video lesson from the Study Hall Data Literacy series titled “Credible Research”, you’ll learn about the stages of research and how it’s checked for quality. You’ll also get an understanding on how to distinguish credible research, essential in today's information-driven world.

We found a little more on this subject of credible research courtesy of our state universities. The Online Writing Lab at Purdue University houses writing resources and instructional materials not only for students, but for anyone with an internet connection. They have some free, relatable material online about our lesson topic and offer some tips about finding credible sources in this lesson’s extra reading.
