First Steps Receives Highest Determination

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services has given First Steps the determination of “Meets the requirements and purposes of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)” on their Annual Performance Report (APR). Only 23 states received this determination, which is the highest designation possible.

First Steps, which provides early intervention services for children from birth to 3 years old with developmental delays, is evaluated on child and family results, and other indicators that measure compliance of the IDEA. The information for the report is collected from the First Steps’ local offices, direct providers and stakeholders, and it is through their dedication to quality services that allows Indiana’s First Steps program to be recognized at the highest level.
