Competency Restoration Workgroup named Behavioral Health Team of the Year

An award-winning collaborative cross-agency workgroup added another award to its mantel.

The Competency Restoration Workgroup that received the Governor’s Public Service Achievement Award in October has been selected as the recipient of the 2023 Heroes for Recovery "Behavioral Health Team of the Year" Award on behalf of Mental Health America of Indiana.

This workgroup identified and implemented ways to reduce the Indiana State Psychiatric Hospital Network’s “incompetent to stand trial” wait time. The team was given the goal of reducing the wait time to under four weeks from four months in two years. Through collaboration, use of data and innovation, they reduced the wait times to 15 days in one year.
