The Assistant Chief of Staff / Operations coordinates for the Superintendent all matters regarding the operational needs of the Department.

With delegated authority from the Superintendent over all Department operations, among several other responsibilities the Assistant Chief of Staff / Operations develops the Department’s mission-essential task list (METL), and identifies training requirements based on the Department’s METL and its current training status. He determines priorities for allocation of Department personnel, weapons, equipment, and ammunition, and in coordination with the AC/S Intelligence and Investigations plans, coordinates, and supervises the tactical movement and employment of Departmental personnel.

He also plans, coordinates, and oversees operational security and force protection, and other major details. Additionally, the Assistant Chief of Staff / Operations conducts crisis action and long-range contingency planning, and estimates personnel and Departmental service support requirements in coordination with the AC/S Administration and Personnel and AC/S Logistics.
