
Local Training Support Grant

Using state funds, the Indiana Fire and Public Safety Academy offers the Local Training Support Grant to support regional fire training efforts. Eligible applicants are public safety entities such as career fire departments, combination fire departments and volunteer fire departments that are owners of training centers and part of the state's Hub-and-Spoke program, have MOUs with the state to conduct training or currently assist with Academy-funded courses.
Examples of items approved for funding:
- Bulk smoke machine fluid
- Burn facility repairs and maintenance
- Chain saw repairs and maintenance
- Fire hose replacement and repairs
- Note: Only fire hose dedicated to a training center. Hoses used on apparatus are not eligible.
- Fire training mannikin repairs (heads, arms, legs)
- Fire training mannikins replacement
- Forcible entry prop repairs and maintenance
- Hazmat training equipment (damming, diking, diverting)
- Helmet covers with shoulder shrouds for flashover chamber
- Helmet shields for flashover helmets
- K-12 saw repairs and maintenance
- Ladder repairs and maintenance
- Ladder testing
- Nozzle and appliance repairs
- Note: Only nozzles dedicated to a training center. Nozzles used on apparatus are not eligible.
- Prop development (water mapping prop, SCBA confidence, hose bed prop)
- Smoke machine repairs and maintenance
- Smoke machine replacement
- Storage bins for training equipment
- Training foam
- Training hydrant
- Training trailer repairs and maintenance (tires, bearings, lights, vents)
- Upkeep of training building (paint, weatherproofing of wood props)
- Ventilation fan repairs and maintenance
- Ventilation prop repairs and maintenance
- VES window prop repairs and maintenance
