Peer Leadership

Peer Leadership Program Overview

This program was identified as a need to support the growth of front-line leaders within the Department. Recognizing that peer leadership is a critical element of the workplace, the program was created to provide training and support to high-potential staff who are not yet in a supervisory position, allowing them to better function as peer leaders in their current roles in addition to providing a tool for Succession Planning. Program is offered twice a year at Correctional Training Institute.

  • Based on the Book “Spark: How to Lead Yourself and Others to Greater Success”
  • Credibility, Confidence, Peer Conflict Resolution, Accountability
  • Stress Management, and Professional Development

Eligibility Requirements

  • An IDOC employee who is not currently in a supervisory role but displays leadership ability among peers and exhibits strong potential to grow into a future leader with the department
  • Must be Grade Level 36 and below

Selection Criteria

  • All staff who meet the requirements are allowed to apply

Program Schedule

Outside time requirements:

  • Read “Spark: How to Lead Yourself and Others to Greater Success”
  • Complete a High Five Assessment

  • March 10-14, 2025
  • June 16-20, 2025
  • September 8-12, 2025
