Women in Leadership

Women in Leadership Program Overview

It began following a conversation about how women in the IDOC can become leaders and evolved into a two-phase program focused on women in corrections.  It’s filled with activities to get participants thinking about leadership values, caring leaders, having vision and self-development. Throughout the program, participants have the opportunity to interact with executive staff through panels and expert presenters; Executive Directors, Deputy Commissioner, Captains, IDOC Commissioner have been known to facilitate the program.

  • Importance of Women in Leadership roles
  • The importance of developing the self for leadership
  • Communicating with others

Eligibility Requirements

  • Phases do not have to be taken in any order
  • All Grade Levels eligible

Selection Criteria

  • Open to everyone. Do not need to be in a supervisory position
