Soil erosion can devastate waterways if left unchecked. Erosion is common on highway construction projects. Completely eliminating erosion is not realistic, but temporary structures, like rock check-dams, can significantly reduce erosion. Planting grasses when road work is finished protects the land and waterways for years to come.
Visit the Indiana Department of Agriculture's Division of Soil Conservation for more information about erosion, the dangers it presents to the environment, and how it may be controlled.
For help with erosion from an INDOT roadway, contact the appropriate INDOT District Office.
