Purpose
The Federal Section 5310 grant program is intended to enhance mobility for seniors and persons with disabilities by providing funds for programs to serve the special needs of transit-dependent populations beyond traditional public transportation services and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) complementary paratransit services.
Eligible Recipients
Local units of government (per Indiana Code 36-1-2-10) or private non-profit organizations.
Eligible Activities
Specialized transportation projects planned, designed, and carried out to meet the special needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities when public transportation is insufficient, inappropriate, or unavailable.
CY 2022 Funding and Grant Application
Interested agencies that propose service to areas over 200,000 population (Lake/Porter counties, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Evansville, Indianapolis, Clark/Floyd counties) should contact their local Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). The INDOT CY 2022 Section 5310 grant application is now available via the INDOT Office of Transit grants management system (BlackCat). Grants are only available to not-for profit corporations and eligible public bodies in small urban areas 50,000 to 199,999 population, or rural areas less than 50,000 population. Applications must be completed by midnight, Friday September 30, 2022. Approximately $3.8 million is available for small urban areas, and $4.1 million for rural areas.
